I am pleased to learn that Banking Almanac: Banks and Financial Institutions of Bangladesh 2016 is going to be published by the Weekly ShikkhaBichitra. Such step is for the first time so far in the country and certainly deserves appreciation.

The major players of financial system of Bangladesh are 56 Scheduled/ Specialized Banks and 33 Non Bank Financial Institutions. Both banking sector & NBFI sector have been providing impetus necessary for boosting economic growth & promoting sustainable development. Bangladesh Bank being the Regulatory Authority has undertaken a number of prudent initiatives for promoting the financial sector of the country which has paved the way for maintaining the growth momentum under systematic approach.

Banking Almanac will provide its stakeholders with multi-faceted advantages such as timely and up to date information on comparable benefits/costs, options available on products/services that they would like to offer or receive at competitive prices & benefits. Individual institution would be able to assess & evaluate their own strengths & weaknesses to chalk out their own strategies to maintain their respective position and to enhance their arms to face the future challenges in the fast changing economic environment.

I hope that Banking Almanac will work as a reliable platform to support economic entities of all sectors of Bangladesh particularly, the manufacturing & service sectors in providing required information.
