Message, Deputy Governor Bangladesh Bank

Bangladesh Bank has grown substantially since independence in 1971 in term with an uninterrupted spell of steady, stable growth of the country’s economy. Since then our movement towards sustainable banking including financial inclusion ethos with inclusive and green banking along with mobile banking initiatives have been recognized in both national and international forum. Central bank as a regulator of the country’s banking and financial sectors is keen to bring each and every citizen under banking network by initiating developing activities for the underprivileged and poor community. At present stage of development of the Bangladesh Economy, the financial sector is playing a key role to promote inclusive growth through different service oriented effective programs. Successful implementations of various types of initiatives are contributing towards raising the standard and efficiency of banking services in the country.

It is my great pleasure and I am also excited to know that The Weekly Shikkhabichitra has taken the first initiative to publish Banking Almanac: Banks and Financial Institutions of Bangladesh. Needless to say, this book will help to fulfill the demand of overview of banks and financial institutions in Bangladesh at a glance. It is evident and well recognized that business efficiency of a corporate like a financial institution, a business entity and market players are heavily dependent on the financial information and regulation that in fact was highlighted in the proposal for the publication of the Almanac. Bangladesh Bank responded quickly and supported financing the said publication from the Bangladesh Bank Disaster Management and Social Responsibility Fund as well as motivated banks to provide inputs in a structured format as requested by ShikkaBichitra.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the board of editors and publisher-Shikkhabichitra and the respective concern for taking greater initiatives in publishing such an effective publication that it really demands in the existing business scenario. I appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm of publisher-Shikkhabichitra for their tremendous efforts to publish Banking Almanac. 1 think there is further scope to go for minimizing data gap and I am confident that with a high degree of enthusiastic commitment and intense engagement demonstrated by our financial sector in providing required data and inputs will be continued in making reliable data more available and minimize the gap. I hope, the Almanac will be of immense help as a ready reference for all the concerns who really want to know about banking and financial sector and business. I believe that this book will turn into long journey. I wish Almanac every success. I once again wish all the concerned in editing and publishing Almanac, a very good outcome through their collaborative and coordinated effort.
